Highly recommended

An excellent upgrade to our bungalow loft insulation. Three men in loft over a day and a half removing 45 large bags of fibreglass and replacing with 300 ml of rock wool insulation.Very professional and clean working. Highly recommended.

Spot on

Very efficient about how the work was carried out; the original insulation removed a large area of boarded loft removed before overlaying the installation of the new insulation between joist. Finally ‘hoovered’ stairs and hallway. PS stairs were covered before commencement of work. Very pleased

We were very impressed

We had Tom in to quote for insulating my dad's loft and he was very down to earth and thorough, the quote arrived quickly, was very reasonable and we settled on a date around 3 weeks later.

The quality of Toms workmanship was very good, the roof space is exactly as he said it would be and everything was disposed of correctly and left clean and tidy as if no one had even been in. We even received a folder with all the details in it upon completion. I would not hesitate to recommend Tom to anyone and we were very impressed with the service we received.

In the end we requested, the removal of insulation, new insulation installed, boarded loft space and a larger loft hatch. To give you an accurate quote, we'll measure up your loft and take pictures for our records on a free home visit. Pick a time that suits you and feel free to ask any questions you have.

Boarding a modern loft in Romsey

A large share of Romsey's newer housing sits on estates built in the last twenty years, and boarding a modern loft is a different job from boarding an older one.

Homes at Abbotswood, Valley Park, Woodley and much of North Baddesley have trussed rafter roofs. The ceiling ties are sized to hold up a plasterboard ceiling, not to carry storage weight, and the diagonal webs cut the space into sections. Cutting or notching any truss member to make room is not an option, so the boarded area has to be designed around the structure as built.

The second issue is insulation depth. Modern homes are built with 270mm to 300mm of insulation laid between and over joists that are typically only 100mm to 150mm deep. Boarding straight onto those joists buries and compresses more than half of it, which is how people end up with a warmer loft and a colder house.

A raised system solves both. It lifts the boarded deck clear of the insulation so the full depth keeps performing, spreads the load across the structure correctly, and leaves the truss members untouched. In older properties around the town centre and the Test Valley villages, where cut roofs and deeper joists are more common, we assess each loft individually and use whichever approach suits the structure.

How much does loft boarding cost in Romsey?

How long will it take to board my loft?

We use raised systems that sit above it, so the full 270mm to 300mm depth keeps working and the ventilation gap at the eaves stays clear.

Will loft boarding affect my NHBC or structural warranty?

Not when it is installed correctly. Warranty problems arise when truss members are cut, notched or drilled to make room, which permanently weakens a designed structure. We do not do that. A raised system sits on top of the existing structure and spreads load across it, leaving every truss member intact. If your home is still inside its warranty period and you want certainty, check the terms with your provider before booking and we will supply details of what the installation involves.
